The Hundertwasser House: The most visited building in Austria

This year, I visited not only the Hundertwasser Village, but also the architecturally impressive Hundertwasser House, designed by the exceptional artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Between 1983 and 1985, Hundertwasser designed this residential complex for the city of Vienna, which attracts millions of visitors from all over the world every year. The Hundertwasser House was Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s first architectural project, which was realized with the help of architect Josef Krawina as co-creator and executive architect Peter Pelikan. The Hundertwasser House is the most visited building in Austria, and I was amazed when I stood in front of the crooked, colorful facade of the house with its lush vegetation, consisting of over 200 trees and shrubs. The house, with its more than 50 apartments and business premises at Kegelgasse 34-38 in Vienna’s 3rd district, is truly spectacular. On the ground floor is a colorful coffee house where every visitor can watch a film about the Hundertwasser House free of charge. The virtual tour of the building is conducted by Friedensreich Hundertwasser himself. The inner courtyard of the building houses a small pedestrian zone with benches and a fountain. It is an idyllic place that invites visitors to linger and marvel at this architectural masterpiece. The Hundertwasser House offers its residents a unique opportunity to design the facade around their windows according to their own taste. I was fascinated by the artistic design of this building, the green roofs and balconies, and the imaginative facade. The fairytale-like residential complex seems to be in harmony with nature. This closeness to nature creates a pleasant living space, which I could really feel. The Hundertwasser buildings, which can be found in many countries around the world, are simply legendary and unmistakable works of art.
